Just did a google image search to check if anyone was infringing on my copyright, and found that someone was using one of my collage images as their contour picture on LinkedIn. I don't know that person. What are your thoughts on this?
Patty
At the very least, you should email Linkedin to let them know of this. There is probably an "ownership of images" clause in their terms of employ.
As another LinkedIn user, I would consider this persons profile as useless to me. I recall of my LinkedIn profile as my online resume, and that's why I go there to wait upward other people's resumes. An image of artwork doesn't actually tell me anything about someone. Do y'all know if they are representing it as their own art?

Patty,
I hold with Mindy near at least notifying Linkedin virtually this copyright infringement of your artwork.
This is definitely a misleading representation of the individual using someone else's piece of work to represent themself.
Non sure nearly notifying the individual personally though—at to the lowest degree until afterward y'all hear what LinkedIn plans to do about it.

I would send a prissy note to the person telling them that their utilize of the image is flattering, simply an illegal copy/use of the image, which is your'due south, would they please cease and desist. You don't know if they knowingly snatched it from something yous posted, or if information technology is floating around out there illegally posted by someone else. Someone else may be offering it as a free to use picture.
Information technology doesn't injure to go with the nice road to start.
I would send a nice note to the person telling them that their utilise of the image is flattering, but an illegal copy/utilise of the image, which is your's, would they please end and desist. It doesn't hurt to go with the dainty route to start.

Since I first posted, I plant someone on Myspace using one of my watercolours in their "My artwork" photos. I sent a complaint to Myspace and sent a message to the person telling to remove it immediately. I too plant a portion of another painting on someone's blog. Some other painting on another blog, where they used it to accompany a verse form that they wrote. I asked them to credit me as the artist.
On another web log (fashion, I think), they did credit me, and I thanked them.
I will e-mail LinkedIn, as I can't seem to contact that person unless I "connect" to them which I don't want to practice.
Thank you for all of your suggestions!
Patty
If they are claiming as their ain, I get straight to the webmaster!
Patty…how do you lot search for your paintings? Do you expect for the subject?
If at whatever fourth dimension people using your work refuse to do so, or ignore you, you can file a DMCA report with the site or their host and the host must comply (peculiarly if you have proof of copyright).
I would go the polite route commencement though.

Patty…how exercise you lot search for your paintings? Practise you await for the subject?
On google, go to "images". In the search box there is a little camera Icon. Click on that and you lot can either put in a URL for an image or upload one from your computer. Google then searches for similar images.
Well, at least I didn't discover anyone trying to sell my art….
It still stinks, Patty. People are fashion too casual about infringing on other people's copyright.
I'm less sanguine about it than some others, I'yard afraid. I really get hot under the collar about stuff like this.
